Remember the Village Walk?
Walking up these steps to the Terracotta Room, sampling the delicious wine on offer. Remember the big silver bowl in the middle and the wines in rows on the wall? Finding myself not quite steady on my feet and deciding better not to drive for a while. And sipping on a steaming hot cup of coffee waiting. Ah..memories - it is good to remember the happy times.

Steavenson Falls ~ after Black Saturday
Although I have been back to Marysville several times since that fateful day in February 2009, this was the first time I have been back to the Falls. I felt saddened and a sense of something lost. I filmed this on Sunday 7th November (2010) and as the area re-generates, will film that too.

Black Saturday - One Year Later
Today, it is one year since the horrific bushfires known as Black Saturday swept across Victoria in which 173 people died and devastated the country side, National Parks and many towns - Marysville, Kinglake, Flowerdale. So many who were with us that day are no longer here and those who survived have faced a long battle. The temperature on that day reached 46.4º, today a year later the expected temperature is 29º - that's 17º cooler.
Coming into Marysville
I have been back several times in those areas and on my first trip back to Marysville, I almost got lost - I didn't recognise anything - all the "landmarks" were gone.

Just before New Year's Day
On my last trip it was just before New Year and there was a feeling of festivity in the air - trees were decorated with Christmas decorations, and the supermarket had re-opened at its new home on Saturday 5th December - five months after the bushfires.

Ye Olde Style Lolly Shoppe
Uncle Fred and Aunty Val's Olde Style Lolly Shop was a wonderful world of goody-num-nums at 8 Murchison Street. Julia Harris re-opened on the 10 July 2009 in a tin shed on the same site. My favourite fudge was sold out as had bread, so I contented myself with Orange fudge, aniseed bulls eyes and inch liquorice.
The Bakery Cafe
We sat outside under the shade and had afternoon tea. A pot of tea for me (made 4 cups), coffees for the others and an assortment of delicious cakes.

Even this old teapot has a "Christmassy" feel to it!
Bruno's Sculpture Garden
Bruno's Sculpture Garden at 51 Falls Road Marysville which brought joy to many was damaged in the bushfires, but around 60% of the sculptures survived and the garden re-opened on 29th November 2009. Although Bruno's home and art gallery were destroyed in the fires, he has decided to stay in Marysville and rebuild his home and restore the gardens.

Foodworks Supermarket
The new Foodworks supermarket re-opened on Saturday 5th December on the site of the former car museum at 49 Darwin Street.
The Marysville Motor Museum Shopping Centre include FoodWorks Supermarket, Bendigo Bank and other specialty stores.

Uncle Fred and Aunty Val's Olde Style Lolly Shop

The wonderful world of goody-num-numsStrolling down Murchison Street one sunny afternoon, I spotted this wonderful old shop - what I dubbed as "Ye Olde English Lolly Shoppe" - Uncle Fred & Aunty Val's Old Style Lolly Shop and as I entered the building I stood in awe with mouth-watering delight. I was like a little child whose Christmases had all come at once. There were so many yummy lollies and chocolates of every description.
I bought chocolates, lollies, boiled sweets, candy bracelets, truffles and all the "stocking fillers" for the Christmas stockings. I am ashamed to say I gobbled up most of the goodies reserved for the stockings. Naturally, I had to go back and replace them. But ohh, such scrumdiddlyumptious treats.

There's No Fish'n'Chips Here!
Well do I remember my first sight of Marysville - I was camping at Narbethong, and couldn't face cooking, and wanted some company and I thought fish'n'chips that's what I'll have. But there wasn't a fish shop around so I went to Marysville. As I turned into the town, everything was closed up.
There was a 4WD stopped in the middle of Murchison Street and a man was leaning on the driver's window chatting with the driver. I pulled up alongside to ask directions, and lo and behold - it was the local copper behind the wheel! He told me no, I wouldn't find any fish shop in Marysville, the closest was at Buxton and he gave me directions to get there. We were both blocking traffic, but that nice policeman didn't seem to mind. I said cheerio and tootled off to Buxton where I had a nice old time eating in the dining area.
